The How Curious podcast just dropped an episode about the origins of the parking meter, and Carl Magee, naturally, was the star.
The podcast is associated with KGOU, the public radio station at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. The show highlights the “legends, rumors, tall tales and other curiosities” of the Sooner State. Magee invented the parking meter while he was editor of the Oklahoma News in Oklahoma City and installed the world’s first meters in the city 90 years ago.
British-born radio producer and folklorist Rachel Hopkin is the producer and host of How Curious. She does a terrific job. I participated as one of her experts because of my Citizen Carl biography. But I learned a lot more than I contributed.
