The Cibola Citizen in Grants, N.M., just published a lovely review of Citizen Carl. Unfortunately, a short bio sidebar conflated my background with that of another author named Jack McElroy. The confusion was inevitable.
One Jack McElroy is an entrepreneur, businessman, publisher and author of 6 books, most of them dealing with the Bible. He has a degree in industrial management from Lowell Technological Institute.
I’m the OTHER Jack McElroy. I have a bachelor’s degree in English/journalism from the University of Arizona and a master’s degree in management from the University of New Mexico. All I’ve ever done is work in the newspaper business.
I actually had a brief interaction with the other Jack McElroy several years ago. When I left the Rocky Mountain News, my colleagues in the online department, presented me with a joke webpage, including the registered domain jackmcelroy.com. Foolishly, I let the domain name lapse, and the other Jack McElroy snapped it up. In a brief communication later, he told me he’d been waiting for years to have a chance to register it himself. My bad. Good on him.
But now that we’ve both published books, confusion rears its head.
