Carl Magee’s gun and grandson impress

A special guest showed up with a special surprise when I delivered a recent talk to Historic Albuquerque about Carl Magee, the subject of my Citizen Carl book. The guest was Vishu Magee, Carl Magee’s grandson, and his surprise was the tiny Colt .25 used to shoot Judge David Leahy and John Lassetter 100 years ago last month.

Vishu never knew his famous grandfather. He never even got to know his father, Ted Magee, who died in an airliner crash in 1949 when Vishu was only 6 weeks old. He reflected on the strength of family bonds that extend beyond such losses and the connections he feels to family up and down the generations.

Vishu inherited the Colt .25 and is interested in donating it to a historical institution.
